Volunteer Projects

There is a variety of volunteer projects to which you can contribute: social work, teaching English to migrant children, working with orphans, etc. When your Chinese language proficiency is advanced there are also various possibilities to support the projects with, for example, translation work. When you enroll for the Volunteer Program you can indicate your interests. Some examples:

Social Work

Day-Care China

You can work in a day care training centre for mentally disabled people. As a volunteer you will assist the local staff in the daily activities of the trainees. The day care training centre is located in the centre of Beijing in a traditional Chinese courtyard house, in a quiet hutong not far from the school location.

Teaching English to Migrant Children

Teaching English

You can teach English at a high school especially set up for migrant children. These children from Chinese migrants (who migrated to Beijing from the countryside in China) have limited educational opportunities in Beijing. The children are very eager to learn English from you!

Children's Home for Children of Detainees

Children's Home China

In this project you support a children's home for children of detainees. While their parents are in prison these children are given shelter in this children's home. You can teach them English, do sports together with the children, and welcome supporters of the children's home who may visit in the weekends.

Animal Shelter

This animal shelter, with more than 700 dogs and cats, is located in the suburbs of Beijing. You support the shelter by helping with the daily care of the animals, like brushing and feeding them, as well as giving some extra attention to the dogs and cats.
